That was certainly the reasoning behind Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House. It was meant to be a revolution in the housing industry. Built out of stamped sheet metal, the Dymaxion House sat on a central pillar that contained all of the utility lines. It was designed to heat and cool naturally, had a diesel generator for power, and was light enough to be air lifted anywhere.
I have found it helpful to do the stretching exercises my physical therapist recommends. Do some core strengthening exercises, such as the ones highlighted at The Mayo Clinic. By keeping your core strong, your back won't put itself in a position to cause that sciatica pain you are having.
